fall is quickly approaching!

A lot of great stuff is happening around the library this time of year--stay tuned because you won't want to miss out!

The much-anticipated Friends of the Library book sale is September 5 and 6. Have you ever wondered what you could do to support the Idaho Falls Public Library? The Friends of the Library is the place you want to be! With their book sales, they are able to contribute to the library's programs like summer reading! We love our friends--when you come to the book sale you should visit with a friend to see how YOU can get invovled.

With the reading programs over*, we are excited for storytimes to start! Be sure to check out the children's page for more information! When school starts, we're ready to help with early readers and all of the reading goals for your children... and don't forget about your reading goals! Adults who read for fun will have children who read for fun! Set the example!

see you in the library!

where have i been?

i'm so lucky to be a new librarian right now as the "librarian" is forced to do a little self-inventory to determine if she is ready for the changes comeing down the pike, or is she going to hold tight to the sacred cows of the profession.

there are academic libraries who are revolutionizing reference services by REMOVING the whole reference desk and roaming around their libraries...

there are academic and public libraries who are using tools like instant messaging and texting to answer reference questions...

and there are libraries going unused by people who pay taxes for the privileges of the library, but those people don't use it. and now libraries are closing for that reason...

it's exciting times as people "foresee" that libraries (and librarians) are going to go the way of the dinosaurs. and some will fall by the wayside, but others (present company included) see the internet and other technology changes as a challenge. i'm a guide and a teacher... i can help! people will always need help.

so with that said, i was lucky enough to meet author C. J. Box in post falls, idaho this last week while attending the pacific-northwest library association conference. i have never read his books, but i have heard nothing but RAVE REVIEWS for his joe pickett series and the few stand-alone novels. i picked one up and can't wait to dig in... why don't you do the same?
see you in the library...
