it's tiki time at the library as we kick off our winter reading program! we know this is a busy time of year, and yet we can't think of a better way to relax than with a good book.
this year we want to not only encourage you to read what you want, but to enlighten you with what gems are hiding in the 800s section of the non-fiction collection. you may be asking: what is in the 800s?
this section, according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system, holds the great literature and rhetoric of the non-fiction collection...
810 American literature
810 American literature
820 English & Old English literatures
830 Literatures of Germanic languages
840 Literatures of Romance languages
850 Italian, Romanian literatures
860 Spanish & Portuguese literatures
870 Italic literatures, Latin
880 Hellenic literatures, Classical Greek
890 Literatures of other languages
you may be asking, how is this different from the fiction collection? the line is a bit blurry, that's for sure. but basically, we are saying the 800s are the best of literature that has been written throughout the ages in prose and poetry. there are collections of short stories, essays and critical thoughts, as well as the plays of Shakespeare and Beowulf... so you can see this isn't much of a stretch from reading from the fiction collection!
the adult (for those 14 and older, please) program starts on december 1. come in to the library and visit the 3rd floor desk, sign up for the program and get a program pamphet which will have 3 review forms...
so where is the perk? when you read 3 books, you will get a prize; three more, another prize; three more, another!
so where is the perk? when you read 3 books, you will get a prize; three more, another prize; three more, another!
but wait!! there's more--each 800 book you read will count for two books!
we hope you'll read with us this winter, and find a new favorite section of the library!!
see you in the library!!
